1976 Cadillac Eldorado exterior gray against the interior blue
The 1976 Cadillac Eldorado was the end of a legend, and so it's great to find such a cruiser-ready example that's had a solid investment to keep it a rolling tribute to the big classic American drop-top. This is an interesting year for the Cadillac convertible. They made more convertibles this year than in previous ones, yet these still hold their value quite nicely. That's because 1976 was the bicentennial of America, and it just seemed right to cruise the USA in a proper American drop-top status symbol. There was also a rush to own an Eldorado convertible because this was the last of an impressive line. Cadillac announced this was the last year for convertibles, and even when drop-tops came back, they never offered the same level of size, comfort, and road-owning luxury as this one. So doesn't that kind of final chapter get you wanting this Caddy even before you check out the details? We like the color combo on this one where it feels like a fade to dark where you have the white roof, gray paint, and dark gray wheels. It is all presented with a classic feel, which means plenty of patina spots... but this one still knows how to impress, right down to the Caddy logos in the side marker lights. So we like how it's clean and complete but still with the aged style that feels like the right catalyst to tell its history. And the value price helps those who want to go from cruiser grade to show level. We like this for a cruiser today because they made the right investments for a comfortable driver. The motor for the power top was recently replaced, so it smoothly reveals quite a distinct interior. The upholstery was redone about three years ago, so the leather is supple and attractive. It was a comprehensive upgrade with impressive details like the soft dash pad and color-matched boot. So you can see how nice the exterior gray is against the interior blue. And it's not only the color combo that will have you riding in style. There are great luxury features like a power seat, power windows, power locks, a tilt steering column, cruise control, and provisions for factory air conditioning (it will need servicing to blow cold again.) They even upgraded your driving music with an AM/FE stereo with USB input and Bluetooth. A big reason why this is considered the last of the true American convertibles is that this was the last time we'd see the big 500 cubic-inch V8. Topped with a four-barrel carburetor, this makes plenty of torque. We bet you know how to do weekend tinkering to unlock big power from such a sizable powerhouse. It likes to be a good cruiser with three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. There are also some nice newer investments, like the aluminum radiator and the exhaust. And don't forget; this was the only year for the convertible with four-wheel disc brakes. The '76 Eldorado drop-top will always hold a special place in our enthusiasts' hearts. You'll find areas to improve on this one if you're looking for a concours car. But we like that this one doesn't take itself too seriously, making it a better cruiser.
